It’s no secret the Celtics were the better basketball team against the Heat. It’s also no secret that the Celtics got in their own way, and cost themselves a trip to the NBA Finals. Tell me if this is a decent recap of the Eastern Conference Finals: Celtics have at least two great quarters, Miami hits important three pointers, Celtics try and immediately match those three pointers and give the ball right back to Miami who then promptly take a double digit lead which is too steep for the Celtics to claw their way back into.
Boston, in my ever so humble opinion, is and was the more talented basketball team. It just didn’t seem like they wanted it as badly as Miami did. It looked like they were playing like they were relieved they didn’t have to play Milwaukee. Let’s face it, I think everyone in Boston thought the Bucks were going to be the Celtics’ biggest and only real threat coming into the postseason.
I don’t particularly think Brad Stevens got out coached by Erik Spoelstra either. I do think he may have lost control of a very passionate and emotional locker room (which I suppose you could argue is bad coaching). We all know that Stevens isn’t exactly the most emotional or outlandish coach in the NBA. I think we’d even go as far to say that he’s one of the more reserved and methodical coaches out there. Some people could argue that it’s a negative aspect of Brad Stevens’ coaching style, and what would’ve pushed Boston to an epic Celtics Lakers NBA Finals appearance. Boston has made (and subsequently been eliminated from) the Eastern Conference Finals three out of the last four seasons. I do have to ask myself, and whoever is reading this, if that’s on Brad Stevens at this point? I don’t know.
The good news is, (and I’m sure we’ve all heard this a thousand times) the Celtics are still very young, and extremely talented. They’re without a doubt primed for more, long-term success. There’s just that one missing intangible that they can’t seem to find, and I can’t quite put my finger on what it is.
But for now, it’ll have to wait til next season.
