The Red Sox Ignored My Advice And Missed The Playoffs

I think I was relatively clear in my last article about the Sox when I said they shouldn’t worry about standings, all they should worry about is not missing the playoffs. I guess nobody in the organization reads 30 Second Sports because they did the complete opposite and will be watching the postseason proceed without them in it. To add a little salt in the wound, the Yankees won the AL East. That sentence hurts to even type out.
Dave Dombrowski has been fired, the current front office is fielding offers for Mookie Betts… it’s not looking fantastic for the near future of the Boston Red Sox. However, it’s not looking horrendous either. Cora has (and should) remain in a managerial position. Were many of his decisions made throughout the season questionable? Absolutely. However, was there a lineup littered with injuries, no bullpen and no closer? Absolutely-er. Cora had to play with the cards he was dealt by Dombrowski, who was evidently content to make no moves from the previous season, and lose Kimbrel without providing a replacement. This season is not on Cora, it’s on Dombrowski, which is why he was rightfully relieved of his duties.
What’s the situation moving forward? The Red Sox obviously need to find a new GM, not necessarily right away as they (unfortunately) have time, and they need to keep Betts. That’s a given. If the Sox manage to lose Mookie Betts for money and picks, this franchise will continue to see players finding other organizations that prioritize what should be prioritized.
