How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days featuring Antonio Brown. I’m sure there’s a right way to describe AB’s time in New England, I’m just not exactly positive how to say it myself. Antonio Brown in his own right is one of the most dangerous receivers in the NFL, and he was well aware of that. However, Antonio Brown also simultaneously built his own coffin, dug the grave, got in, and nailed the coffin shut. The NFL, as much as we may or may not hate to admit it, is a job that doesn’t stop when you leave the office. In today’s world especially, you need to be on your best behavior at all times. You need to have your wits about you, realize that the internet never forgets, and neither do text threads. Antonio Brown, albeit innocent until proven guilty, did not leave much doubt in the Patriots’ minds that he would continue be a negative presence, and more dirt would continue to be dug up on this man’s off-the-field antics.
While it was nice to have the rest of the NFL in a cold-sweat with the added threat of Antonio Brown, the Patriots didn’t by any means need him to succeed themselves. Taking Brown out of the picture still leaves Dorsett, Edelman (pending his rib injury isn’t major), Gordon, their first round pick Harry, and dynamic running backs in Burkhead, White, Michel, and Bolden. The injury-stricken offensive line has done their job thus far, and when your O-line coach is Dante Scarnecchia, the offensive line whisperer, that’s expected.
The New England defense has been about as perfect as you can ask for up to this point, granted they’ve only really had to face a diminished Pittsburgh, Miami, and the third string QB Jets. Regardless, those are still NFL teams with NFL players on their roster that can score at the drop of a hat the moment anyone on defense drops their focus. The Patriots likely won’t be truly tested until their 9th game of the season when they face the incredibly dynamic Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
It’s easy to lose focus when you play teams that aren’t on the same level talent-wise as you, but three weeks in, the Patriots have shown no signs of losing focus, or even mercy at this point. If that continues, this could very well be another successful season, and a deep postseason run.
