Things slowly but surely seem to be leveling back out in the AL East. While the Yankees sit at the top, the Red Sox are back to above a .500 winning percentage with a 25-23 record, sitting 5.5 games back. A large part of this recent turnaround is rookie Michael Chavis, who’s playing like a seasoned veteran. Since entering the Red Sox lineup, he has played in 27 games, and has 24 RBI’s. He almost has an RBI in every single game he’s played. That’s ridiculous. Along with that, he’s batting .296 and has 9 home runs, each one hit longer and harder than the last. If this keeps up, Chavis should be a shoe-in for rookie of the year, and if the Sox play their cards right, he could be a long-term franchise player in Boston. Michael Chavis may just be the spark plug that the Red Sox needed to turn this season around before it was too late.
