The Orioles have taken their rightful place back at the bottom of the AL East, so check that box off, but the Red Sox are still currently 9-15. Despite the fact that they swept the Tampa Bay Rays, Boston is still looking to find consistency in just about every department. Chris Sale appears to be leveling out, but the bullpen isn’t doing him any favors, and neither apparently is the offense. The only two players who seem to have picked up where they left off last season are J.D. Martinez and Mitch Moreland, with J.D. batting .330, and Moreland hitting clutch home runs left and right with 7 on the season thus far. Well, if we’re getting technical, David Price currently has the best batting average on the team batting .500, but that’s not important.
But back to the conundrum of this season, Blake Swihart is gone to Arizona, Nathan Eovaldi is out for the foreseeable future with surgery on his elbow, and Dustin Pedroia’s career could be over just as soon as it was making a comeback. What I think the Sox need to do is just look for consistency, wherever it may come. Don’t try to win 108 games all over again, that will just cause more and more frustration within the clubhouse, and with the fans. Once Boston can find it’s stride on the mound (pun intended) and consistency with the bats, this season is salvageable.
Panic level: 6.8
