How Bout Them Red Sox?

Gas up the duck boats, cue the “Yankees suck” chants, and crank up “Dirty Water”, the Boston Red Sox are the 2018 World Series champs. Not only was this season the greatest season the Sox have ever seen with 108 wins, leading the league, but this may have been the most dominant postseason performance I’ve ever seen, and the Red Sox swept the Rockies in the 2007 World Series. The bullpen, well, I should say the starting rotation was lights out, and even on the few games that the Boston bats fell asleep, the pitching kept them in it and gave them the chances to win.
Aaron Judge may have made the worst mistake of his life blasting “New York, New York” leaving Fenway during the ALDS, as that lit a fire underneath the Sox. And to put a little salt in the wound, blasted that in the clubhouse after winning each series.
Quite honestly, there were three options to choose from for the World Series MVP: Pearce, Price, or Eovaldi. Price was lights out in both of his starts and proved just about everyone who doubted him wrong. Eovaldi went above and beyond the call of duty, especially in that 18 inning heart-wrenching turtle race of a game three. Then there’s the man who’s played for every team in the AL East, Steve Pearce. Is there a better word for clutch? That man is eating anywhere in Massachusetts for free for the rest of his life.
Let’s recap this postseason, shall we? Brock Holt hit for the cycle. Jackie Bradley Jr., Mookie Betts, and Andrew Benintendi were all nominated for gold gloves. Benintendi made two pivotal show stopping catches. The entire Red Sox roster pounded two of the best pitchers in baseball in Verlander and Kershaw. Cora showed off his omnipotent powers when Nuñez and Moreland each pinch hit for two crucial home runs. Joe Kelly did Joe Kelly things and threw 100mph lasers to shut down any and every batter that had the stones to step in the batters box.
It’s a good era to be a Boston fan. 11 championships since 2001? Yes please and thank you.
