I Still Don’t Think It’s Time To Panic About The Patriots Quite Yet

Alright. The Patriots just dropped their second game in a row. And yes, it was to Matt Patricia and the Detroit Lions. However, I think there’s a few things to factor into this particular loss. New England didn’t have Flowers and Chung on defense, two of their more important, smart, and speedy guys on D, which paved the way for Detroit to run the ball right through the middle, and dropped coverages in the backfield, where Flowers and Chung might not normally slip up. Also, no Edelman or Gordon active for this game; Edelman still serving his four game suspension, and Gordon inactive with a hamstring issue. Two of arguably the most dangerous receivers in the NFL sidelined, limiting (and I’m using the word ‘limiting’ fairly lightly) Brady to Gronkowski, Hogan, and Dorsett as his primary targets. This makes it fairly easy for Matt Patricia to strategize on defense. It also helps that Patricia had been on Bill Belichick’s staff since 2004 and his defensive coordinator for five years.
Now, we’re only three games into the season, there’s one more game before Edelman returns to action, and who really knows how severe Josh Gordon’s hamstring injury actually is. He could’ve honestly needed an extra week to learn the Patriot’s understandably complex system. The Patriots have won the super bowl before while losing more than two games before. In fact, they haven’t won a super bowl without losing at least two games. So, it’s not time to say goodbye to the New England dynasty just quite yet, there’s still a lot of football to be played.
