It seemed every outing by Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale this past season was a record breaking performance of some kind. Sale struck out batters 308 times, holding a 2.90 ERA, .98 WHIP, and had an overall record of 17 wins and 8 losses. Sale lead the American League in strikeouts per 9 innings pitched (12.93), total innings pitched (214.1), total strikeouts (308), and fielding independent pitching (2.45). Somehow that wasn’t enough in the league’s eyes to award Sale the Cy Young award for the American League.
