Maybe it’s just sports commissioners as a whole who get a bad wrap for making the tough decisions, but I can’t think of any two people who receive quite as much hate as NFL commissioner Roger Goodell or NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. When these two make public appearances anywhere they go, any time they talk it’s almost inaudible as they are berated with boo’s from the crowd, who, by the way, probably went to that event just to boo them. In Goodell’s tenure, he has overseen one lockout, one referees strike (that one awful season where they had college refs work the games), and a massive stretch of mass protesting within the league. In Bettman’s career, he has overlooked two lockouts.
